Malibu Balance Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (AIOP)

Balance Treatment Center Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program

The goal of Malibu Balance Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program is to provide intensive treatment, support and education to teens and their families. We offer sophisticated treatment for adolescents ages 12 – 17 who may be struggling with depression, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiance, generalized anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and other disorders. Our experienced clinical team will help equip an adolescent with the necessary tools to assess their environment and engage in positive coping skills acquisition. We help to challenge teens to do something different; to act and react in a manner that will enable the teen to take responsibility for his or her actions and understand that each family member has a role to play in the overall wellbeing of the family dynamic.

Balance AIOP provides a structured group therapy format for clients with a mental health diagnosis or with a dual diagnosis, offering separate tracks for each.

Our professional staff is dedicated to the emotional and psychological welfare of clients and their families. Balance AIOP strives to provide the skills and tools necessary for our clients and their families to overcome emotional and behavioral issues. Balance AIOP staff uses a family systems approach with the adolescent and family by identifying and discussing family dynamic issues. This is done by working cooperatively with the individual adolescent and by providing support and education for the adolescent’s parents. Family members as well as outpatient providers are to be included in the recovery, treatment and discharge process.

What to Expect - Balanced Treatment Approach

Adolescent IOP intake assessment

Balance clients start with an intake assessment and diagnostic testing which will reveal possible emotional issues, social issues, educational issues or physical issues. Using the initial assessment, we will formulate an individualized treatment plan addressing each client’s needs and unique experience. At admission, the discharge planning needs of our clients are identified. We work closely with our clients to develop a comprehensive discharge plan to provide continuity of care and to assist our clients and their families in maintaining gains made throughout treatment.

Our in-house Board Certified Child Psychiatrist, Ronald D. Sager, M.D., can provide a full psychiatric evaluation with a medication assessment and with ongoing medication management.

Balance AIOP treatment will include psychotherapy, education and symptom management

Balance AIOP treatment will include psychotherapy, education and symptom management focusing on four components we believe to be developmental milestones: emotional, social, educational and physical. Only when all four of these components are addressed and in balance, can true recovery and stability be reached.

Emotional:
Balance AIOP team will work together to identify our clients’ emotional conflicts and needs. Our treatment team will utilize a broad tool box of treatment modalities and therapeutic techniques such as CBT, DBT, EMDR and others to help clients dealing with painful emotions, anxiety, self-injurious behavior and other struggles. Balance AIOP can provide a full medication assessment and ongoing med management in conjunction with therapy which contributes to a balanced and strong emotional component.

Emotional, social, educational and physical components
