Malibu Balance Intensive Outpatient program

Malibu Balance Intensive Outpatient Program

The goal of Malibu Balance Intensive Outpatient program is to provide our clients a path to long-term stability and wellbeing using a balanced approach that the clients will be able to follow in their daily lives. Balance IOP provides treatment, support and education to those struggling with depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, oppositional defiance, psychosis, and substance abuse issues including dual diagnosis.

Those who enter our program will be welcomed into a supportive and structured group environment, consisting of people struggling with similar challenges, where they will be made to feel comfortable expressing their struggles and concerns. Our team of seasoned clinicians offers a variety of clinical backgrounds to expose our clients to a range of therapeutic approaches so that our collective clinical knowledge can best suit each client’s unique needs.

Family members, significant others and outpatient providers are to be included in the recovery, treatment and discharge process with the client’s consent. This will help to determine the appropriate diagnosis, treatment, education and ongoing support of the client and family.

Our treatment introduces many clients to the importance of continuing and appropriate aftercare, as they may have been recently discharged from inpatient or partial hospitalization or may require more intensive services than outpatient therapy and psychiatry.

What to Expect - Balanced Treatment Approach

Balanced Treatment Approach

Balance clients start with an intake assessment and diagnostic testing which will reveal possible emotional issues, social issues, educational issues or physical issues. Using the initial assessment, we will formulate an individualized treatment plan addressing each client’s needs and unique experience. At admission, the discharge planning needs of our clients are identified. We work closely with our clients to develop a comprehensive discharge plan to provide continuity of care and to assist our clients and their families in maintaining gains made throughout treatment.

Our in-house Board Certified Psychiatrist, Ronald D. Sager, M.D., can provide a full psychiatric evaluation with a medication assessment and with ongoing medication management.

Balance IOP treatment will include psychotherapy, education and symptom management focusing on four components we believe to be developmental milestones: emotional, social, educational and physical. Only when all four of these components are addressed and in balance, can true recovery and stability be reached.

  • Emotional: Balance IOP team will work together to identify our clients’ emotional conflicts and needs. Our treatment team will utilize a broad tool box of treatment modalities and therapeutic techniques such as CBT, DBT, EMDR and others to help clients dealing with painful emotions, anxiety, self-injurious behavior and other struggles. Balance IOP can provide a full medication assessment and ongoing med management in conjunction with therapy which contributes to a balanced and strong emotional component.
  • Social: Balance IOP includes daily groups and multi-family groups as the process of group therapy is a powerful social component to the healing process. Clients will practice processing daily struggles or discontent in a safe environment with the assistance of our highly trained staff.
  • Educational: Balance IOP provides educational tools and guidance necessary to get our clients into jobs/schools, to keep them in jobs/schools and to help them succeed in jobs/schools. Our team will work together to identify any learning issues or educational needs and to help our clients set and reach their goals.
  • Physical: Balance IOP stresses the importance of being physically active and provides clients with appropriate activities. We express the value and enjoyment of healthy eating and have a nutritionist and dietician for necessary consultations.
