Food and Nutrition Program

Food and Nutrition Program

At Balance we believe an integral part of the healing process begins with proper nutrition. The benefits of a well-balanced diet not only heal the body, but can offer significant improvement to mental health as well. We have designed our food and nutrition program to offer our clients a whole body approach in regards to the meals provided. The menus created not only provide delicious wholesome food but meals that optimize nutritional benefits.

Upon intake you will receive an individual assessment with a member of our nutritional team. We will make note of all allergies, dietary restrictions and any other special needs you may have. Our registered dietician will monitor your diet during your stay to ensure that all of the nutritional needs are being met.

Farm to Table Approach

We believe in a farm to table approach of food preparation at Balance. Foods are sourced locally and used seasonally. This philosophy in cooking offers our clients the freshest and healthiest fare available. Foods are prepared merely days from harvest and are at their peak of flavor and nutritional value. Organic dairy products, sustainable meats and seafood and non-GMO all natural products will be used to prepare each and every meal.

We are extremely proud to participate in the Community Sustained Agriculture program of Underwood Family Farm in Moorpark, CA. We receive weekly deliveries directly from the farm that are incorporated in the meals for the week. There are also opportunities for our clients to personally visit the Underwood Farm. Clients are able to learn about sustainable growing practices, harvesting food and animal education during farm tours. They will also be able to enter the fields and pick their own fruits and vegetables. The produce picked will be brought back to the Balance house for a weekly Family Dinner that all clients will participate in preparing.

The day begins with a buffet of breakfast specialties that may include free range eggs, house baked pastries, local fruit and freshly squeezed juices. Lunch and dinner at Balance are served “family style”. This provides a sense of fellowship and promotes a community atmosphere in the house. Lunch is typically lighter fare and is served in the main dining room or is packed picnic style for the various planned group outings or day hikes. Dinner is prepared as four courses and is served in the main dining room or al fresco on our covered patio. On Sundays our chefs prepare a traditional Brunch that features many savory and sweet items. All meals are prepared on premises in our state of the art Tuscan style kitchen. The house is always filled with the irresistible aromas of freshly baked treats and meals being prepared from scratch.
