IconEmotional: Emotional stability helps create clear, rational thinking and productive behavior. Dr. Sager’s decades of experience in psychopharmacology and psychoanalysis contribute to his solid comprehension of the emotional component to healing. In addition, Dr. Sager has been fortunate to be exposed to numbers of colleagues with a vast range of experience and specialties. From this exposure, he has learned the importance of utilizing a broad knowledge base and tool box of treatment techniques and modalities.

IconSocial: Socialization is a fundamental part of being human. Dr. Sager had the opportunity to work closely with a colleague who was a Kohutian theorist and studied the psychology of the self. Heinz Kohut was a psychoanalyst whose theory in part discusses the role of empathy in the development of self-esteem and personal integrity. During this experience, Dr. Sager learned the importance of psychopathology viewed from the standpoint that one reacts and adapts solely based on the interactions with others. He then added the social aspect as a crucial component to what he believes is necessary in achieving a balanced state of mental health.

IconEducational: The more opportunities one is given to learn, the more capacity one has to learn and acquire knowledge. Early in his studies, Dr. Sager worked with autistic children under the supervision of Ole Ivar Lovaas, PhD., who was a pioneer in applied behavior analysis and who worked to provide evidence that the behaviors of autistic children can be changed through teaching. Through this experience, Dr. Sager developed a strong understanding of the importance of the educational component to psychological health.

IconPhysical: Regular activity and well-balanced diets not only contribute to one’s physical health but also offer significant improvement to one’s mental health. Dr. Sager had the privilege to train with a prestigious martial arts trainer who instilled in him the value of being physically active which he’s maintained throughout his life. Through his personal benefits of physical activity, Dr. Sager understands the parallel between physical health and positive mental health.

Dr. Sager understands that deficiencies in these areas can become a source of difficulty for all different types of individuals resulting in distortions and the inability to cope. This is the root of destructive, inefficient lifestyles which leads to damage in relationships and careers and to an increase in conflict and addictive behavior.

Dr. Sager has put together a powerful clinical team who share his beliefs, knowledge and passion in the design of the program at Balance, centering on these areas in each client’s individual experience.

The long term goal of Balance Treatment Center is to see our clients achieving optimal functioning in all areas and phases of their lives... basically to be living the best life that they possibly can.
